We have a double pass to To Die For: Is Fashion Wearing Out the World? to giveaway!
It’s been more than 20 years since we first became anxious about sports shoes made in sweatshops, and yet cheap and fashionable clothing still seems like an unqualified good – another gift of the globalisation boom years to consumers in developed countries.
But as the recent factory fires in Bangladesh have reaffirmed, it’s a gift that comes at a terrible cost to others and to the environment. As we deal with guilt and the mountain of waste that ‘fast fashion’ produces, others deal with Dickensian conditions and subsistence wages, while the carbon footprint of our fluctuating wardrobes continues to expand. Is there a way out of this Faustian bargain that has seen fashion become a destructive force?
Lucy Siegle is a British author and journalist covering environmental issues and sustainability. She is the author of Green Living in the Urban Jungle and To Die For: Is Fashion Wearing Out the World?

Thanks to our friends at Text Publishing we are giving away 10 copies of Melinda Houston’s new book, ‘Kat Jumps the Shark‘!
‘An irresistible cocktail of intrigue, egos and insider information. A great read for lovers of TV told from the perspective of a no-nonsense, brave and funny heroine.’
– Kat Stewart, actor (Offspring, Underbelly)
Kat Kelly reckons she’s got life sorted. She has a man who cooks and does the dishes. A stepdaughter she adores. And her dream job: scouting locations for a TV production company. All the big dramas are behind her, right?
Before she knows it, Kat is out of love and has nowhere to live. Between her ditzy new intern and an amorous ex-footballer, work isn’t much better. And just when things couldn’t get any worse, disaster strikes Kat’s set, sending her spinning totally out of control.
Kat Jumps the Shark is a moving and at times hilarious tale about losing it all, only to find it again in the most unexpected place. Full of cheeky digs at television and celebrity culture, this fun-filled novel is for all readers.

I hope you had a restful and enjoyable break over Christmas and new year. It’s just never enough though, is it?
2013 was a big year for Round She Goes – I expanded the market to Sydney (and they love it!) and had some new branding created by the unbelievably talented, Laura Blythman. I also tried out a new Melbourne location – Box Hill.
Everyone loved the Box Hill market, so I’ll be doing three events (in the Main Hall this time) there in 2014.
The Kingston City Hall in Moorabbin is undergoing some redevelopments this year, so I figured it’s a great chance to spread the Round She Goes love with the east of Melbourne!
I’m now busy processing applications for the 2014 market events. There are lots of other exciting things I’m plotting and planning for Round She Goes this year so stay tuned!
Thanks to you for your ongoing support. It means a lot.
Shoppers who attend the 8 December market at the Kingston City Hall in Moorabbin will receive a free* 2for1 film pass to see Philomena – starring Judi Dench & Steve Coogan.
Philomena is the true story of one mother’s search for her lost son. Falling pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena Lee was sent to the convent of Roscrea to be looked after as a “fallen woman”. When her baby was only a toddler, he was taken away by the nuns for adoption in America. After fifty years searching for him in vain, Philomena (Judi Dench) meets Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan), a world-weary journalist as cynical as Philomena is trusting.
Together they embark on a journey of discovery, revealing the extraordinary life of Philomena’s son. Warm, witty and compassionate, and featuring a powerhouse performance from Judi Dench, Philomena is not to be missed.
It’s in cinemas Boxing Day. See the trailer here. Big thanks to Hopscotch Films for the freebies!
